  1. I was planning to use it for steaks, etc. In doing so, I found only one steak at a time could be placed on the grill. It was too small for more. It probably would make for a sandwich grill but not for grilling meats. Since I have other grills I wasted my money on the purchase. I will stick with my other grills and most likely just sell this on criagslist at a lost.

  2. I am a long time indoor grill user and went through quite a few of them.

This one is far the messiest one. I have never had problem with escaping grease but with this grill it is all over the kitchen. It will go from the back, leak on the sides, drip from the front onto the temperature dial but not into the special cup. I have an impression that designers of this grill never bothered to test how it works.

Otherwise the grill is good if you do not mind cleaning your kitchen after each application of the grill.

I uploaded a picture into the product page. See for yourself.

  3. Our faithful little George Foreman grill was ailing. The nonstick plates stuck; it didn’t seem to get as hot as it did before. As though reading my mind, Amazon brings up this Waring grill in the gold box, and I decide to give it a chance.

Does it work? Yes! Are the nonstick plates suitably slippery? Yes. Does it cook the food properly? Absolutely. Is the adjustable temperature a neat feature? Sure, although it’s not that big of a deal. Does it do a good job grilling things like chicken breasts, sliced eggplant, and other low-fat entrees? Mmmm, indeed it does.

Does it create an incredible mess on those occasions when you want to cook thicker, inherently greasier entrees, like bratwurst? And how.

One of the advantages of the Foreman series is the way the whole cooking surface slopes gently downward. This results in any grease and oil running quickly and efficiently off the cooking surface and into the waiting container.

The Waring features a completely level cooking surface, with just a notch cut in one corner that allows the oil to drip out into the cup. Thus, as fat liquefies and leaves the food, it tends to stay where it dripped, rather than run in any particular direction. Of course, since it’s a very hot cooking surface, the oil bubbles, hisses, spits, and sends out a 360-degree spray of greasy spatters. And since your meat is, by design, propping the grill open, those spatters have absolutely nothing stopping them from coating your surrounding counter top, and oftentimes the nearby floor. Cleanup is made easier if you cover the counter with paper towels beforehand, but that’s kind of a wasteful hassle.

So, honestly, we’ll probably get rid of this messy thing and look into another Foreman. That slope makes a heck of a difference.

  4. I wanted to purchase a grill that had removable plates for ease of cleaning. Having struggled with a George Forman in the past, it was very important to me that it be easy to clean. This unit is great! I couldn’t wait to use it, and I was not disappointed. I made chicken Panini sandwiches for my family. I used the griddle plates to cook the chicken and bacon, and then removed those plates and used the grill plates to cook the assembled sandwiches. All four plates then easily slipped into my sink for a quick wash. The grill cooked evenly and regulating the temperature was easy. I just can’t say anything bad about this unit. It is my favorite appliance, and the perfect size for my family of four.

  5. I bought this as a Gold Box special and am very pleased with it. I like the fact that I can adjust the heat setting. The plates are easy to remove and clean. I haven’t used it as an open faced griddle yet, but I am sure it will work well. Heat distribution is even. The floating lid makes it easy to cook different cuts of meat (but not at the same time, of course). The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish they had made the plates reversible instead of having to have 2 sets.
